Biography of your dedicated Board Members – Tyler Hallman

Here is a presentation of Tyler who is an ACC Member for 8 years and Ski Chair for 2 years.

“I have been a member of the ACC for a while, but I would say I really only got more active with the club during the 2015/2016 winter season because all of my regular ski partners were out of commission.  I don’t have a long history with the club and am completely unqualified to be the ski chair – but oh well!

My favorite activity is skiing of all types: skiing at the resort, backcountry skiing, snowboarding, split-boarding.  I would start snow surfing and telemarking if I had the time.  The purest form of bliss is most certainly split-boarding.  I am not much of a climber – really, I only know enough to assist in my ski mountaineering missions.

Compared to when I started there are way more people backcountry skiing.  All the fresh tracks are gone pretty quickly in accessible areas.  You know you’re far out there when you’re alone now while skiing in the backcountry.

I try to do some snow sliding every weekend in the winter; but it doesn’t always happen.  I know it’s been too long when I start to get itchy in my bones for some pow.  I enjoy leading trips for the section especially when the other people are super stoked.

I heard a nice quote by Rene Daumal in a ski movie filmed by some Veterans who returned to Iraq to ski:

“You cannot stay on the summit forever; you have to come down again. So why bother in the first place? Just this: What is above knows what is below, but what is below does not know what is above. One climbs, one sees. One descends, one sees no longer, but one has seen. There is an art of conducting oneself in the lower regions by the memory of what one saw higher up. When one can no longer see, one can at least still know.”  Rene Daumal ”

Note from the Editor: Thanks for ALL of what you do with your team of dedicated volunteers for our club Tyler! The last two years our winter calendar has shown more trips and better than ever and I know we won’t be disappointed for this upcoming one in terms of destinations/hut choices etc.. YESSS!! ND
