Over the August 20th weekend, 4 members of the ACC (coming from Salmon Arm, Canmore, Calgary, and all the way from Rosetown, SK!) worked to reclaim 1.3 km of the roughly 10 km Swan Creek Trail leading to the Fairy Meadow Hut (currently only accessible via helicopter or an extremely alder-filled day).
While thousands of us use trails to access remote climbing and skiing areas or even just for general hiking enjoyment, very few of us participate in their construction and up-keep. However, with a little effort, a lot of trail maintenance progress can be made by a small number of individuals, even over the course of a weekend.
In addition to giving back to the club and helping reclaim an important hut trail, the team had an awesome weekend in all respects – beautiful weather, minimal bugs (not sure how we managed that), delicious meals (provided by the ACC), amazing scenery, and great folks to hang out with to boot. If a weekend in an incredible area with awesome people sounds like something that’s up your alley, stay tuned for the next Fairy Meadow Trail Building Call-Out, tentatively scheduled for late September (weather permitting)! The ACC is looking for 8-10 members to commit to a weekend of trail building and maybe even some fun. As an incentive, food will be provided by the ACC, as well as any required tools. Carpooling is also encouraged. For more information contact Kristine at ae@acccalgary.ca.
