This one’s still aways out, but I’m trying to minimize the last minute planning this year. Call me crazy.
Alright, if you’ve been added to this trip on the calendar, then here’s some information for ya:
The Plan: We’ll be leaving Calgary after work on Friday and then driving out to Rampart Creek. We’ll be splitting up into smaller groups climbing Saturday and Sunday. We’ve got a few people who have indicated that they’re comfortable putting up a rope – but this is early season and Will Gadd isn’t on this trip, so I’m guess everyone is going to be aiming for objectives on the easy end of the spectrum.
The Food: I like potlucks. A lot. So let’s do one Saturday night. I’m going to rope a couple of people into helping me with a main course (fajitas?) and everyone else is on appy or desert duty. So, who wants to help with the main? Got a specialty you feel like bringing? Let us know below. Also, please let us know if you have any dietary issues – lots of people do and I’m super happy to accommodate; I’ve had a fair bit of practice and haven’t poisoned anyone yet (though I keep trying to add milk to supposedly lactose-free scrambled eggs – luckily I’ve been caught in time so far).
The Cash: The cost of this trip is $54/person for the two nights. I think. That’s what my reservation says anyway. Your spot on this trip is confirmed when you email me that $54 for your spot in the hostel. Payment is due by November 15. Any cancellations can be made up to 2 days in advance, but please give me some advance notice because a) I need time to actually cancel your spot and b) there are people on the waiting list – if you wait until the last minute to bail, they probably won’t be able to come.
The Objectives: As we get closer to the date, if you’re comfortable leading, pipe up with what objectives you’re interested in. Like I said, we’ll be splitting into smaller groups and probably hitting a couple of different objectives on the parkway. It would be nice to discuss our options in advance…
So, anyone have any questions?
November 15, 2016 at 09:38 #14155I am allergic to dairy and eggs. Fajitis would work great for the main course because I can just skip on cheese.
I’m going to volunteer for dessert, because I know it’s really hard to find dessert that has no eggs or milk. I have a brand new bread maker, so I’m probably going to bring a loaf of bread too.
Any other allergies in the group? Are nuts okay?
November 25, 2016 at 14:25 #14223So, I guess we’re trying this climbing thing next weekend. I’m going to scout things out this weekend so hopefully I’ll know where all of the fat, fat ice is.
A couple of planning notes – just about everyone has sent in their cash for the hostel, so thanks for that.
Food – how about two people volunteer to help me with a main course (fajitas/tacos/some sort of food in wrap form). Everyone else, please bring an appy, a desert or a beverage to share.
Carpool – we’re leaving Our Lady of the Assumption School parking lot at 6pm
Any last questions? Concerns?
See you next weekend!
November 25, 2016 at 14:44 #14224Hey everyone.
I just wanted to let the team know that due to scheduling conflicts I am going to have to drive back to Calgary on Saturday night. If there is someone you know that wants to join in and take my spot in the hostel on Saturday night, I have already paid for it and its available. Let me know!

November 29, 2016 at 08:33 #14259I was climbing up the Icefields Parkway this weekend and while not everything was in, we found some ice. Our group climbed Shades of Beauty (well, the first pitch at least), Meltout seemed to go and while Bow Falls wasn’t looking fun, there was some WI3/4 thing nearby that provided a couple of pitches of fun.
Jenny – sucks that you have to leave Saturday night. Med school is clearly getting in the way of hanging out with ME and therefore I think you should drop out.
Holli – I think you’re the only one in Canmore, so we’ll meet you at Rampart.
Nando and I are on dinner so far and we need one more volunteer to help out.
Stoked!
November 30, 2016 at 21:27 #14284Anyone want to leave a little earlier from Calgary? My carpool has room for one more person but we want to leave around 5.
