ACC Calgary climbing season extension

ACC Calgary climbing season extension
October 9, 2016 Lida Frydrychova

While it feels like winter in Calgary for those rock lovers in the ACC section the climbing season is ongoing. It was only a week ago 10 of us enjoyed 25 degree temperatures in beautiful Okanagan. Sunbathing on the lake shore and climbing in tank tops. Since our group was smaller on the first day we climbed at the popular spots like Red Tail and Fortress. On Friday more people joined and all 10 of us headed to Claim It All where we claimed it and enjoyed some 10s and 11s. Sat was supposed to rain but instead it was another hot day with little shower at dinner time. On our last day nobody seemed to want to leave the sunshine so we climbed for another half a day before heading back to Calgary. Thank you all for joining, for campfire story sharing and long drive entertaining. It was a great trip and for those who are still keen on climbing, join us for the next adventure in El Potrero Chico, Mexico. EPC is extremely established with tons of huge multi-pitch sport climbing. It has over 650 bolted routes, rated 5.7 to 5.14, with campgrounds and guesthouses within walking distance of the crags. Part of the appeal of Potrero Chico is, put simply, the easy—and cheap—living. By day, climbers ascend spires like Crash Test Dummies, an exposed two-pitch 5.9 with an enviable view over the verdant valley at the top. Come evening, they buy fresh veggies and fruit at the local markets, then gather in campgrounds to cool off in the pool, share stories, and drink margaritas in the shade.

Let’s go to Mexico

I love outdoors and spending time in the backcountry. My main activities are AT skiing and ice climbing in the winter and mountaineering and rock climbing in the summer.
