Four of us headed up to Asulkan Hut on December 18 for a few days of great skiing. We were fortunate that the ski gods had just deposited 30 to 40 cms of storm snow in the region to freshen things up after a long dry spell. The noted surface hoar layer (dec 15) was very active along the creek, but not as apparent at treeline where we skied. Hence we had a great day of powder turns and short drops. Very windy the night of December 19 – leaving the alpine skiing very wind affected for our last day – some good turns were had just below the Hut though. Forever Young was tempting but looked to be loaded – we got our glimpse for next time. We also had the rare good fortune of having the Hut to ourselves for the duration of our stay. Another great December trip to Asulkan – when the days are short but the snow is usually light and fluffy.
