How to Become a Trip Leader

How to Become a Trip Leader
May 10, 2015 Webmaster

Calgary Section members are encouraged to move their club activities up a notch by leading a club trip to the mountains. Becoming an ACC Trip Leader can be a rewarding experience and we hope that you will enjoy it as much as we do. In the case of new leaders, we would like you to go through these steps:

  1. First, get experience on how ACC trips are run by participating on a number of trips. Typically, a full season in the activity that you wish to lead is required.
  2. Ensure that you have current Wilderness First Aid training. The section reimburses up to $200 for taking Wilderness First Aid training. All you need to do is lead a section trip within 12 months, before or after of the Wilderness First Aid course to obtain the subsidy.
  3. Familiarize yourself with the Trip Leader’s Handbook.
  4. Get in contact with the chair of the Training & Leadership, Climbing or Ski Committee (the contact page of the section website) to express your interest in becoming Trip Leader.

Once you are an active Leader, we encourage you to take full advantage of our many free or partially-subsidized courses and workshops that allow you to broaden and improve your skills.

Your status as a Trip Leader will expire if you have not led a trip in three years.

If you have any comments or questions or require clarification, please feel free to ask any member of the Board. See you in the mountains!
