
For those of you who just started back-country skiing, here are a few tips that will make your life going uphill in the mountains much easier… and for those of you/us who have been doing it for a while, it never hurts to get back to the basics for better, longer strides to perfection 🙂

In the article below, make sure you pay particularly attention to the “Boots on the Ground” and “Stride and Glide”… remember why you have skins on: to glide and grip on the snow, not to be up in the air.. you are not hiking you are skinning!
Think of the effort your body – legs, calves, lungs, heart – has to make when you add up the number of strides you take over a certain distance, over a certain elevation gain with the weight of your ski boots, bindings, skis and skins! So stride and glide for more energy efficiency..
In terms of body position for a steep uphill, please pay attention to paragraph “Stand Proud”.. yes it’s a hip movement (not a leg lifting one):
